Define aliases?

Aliases are things you type that do other things. For instance you could type "dw" and it would do "drink water".
In Savitar, you do these via "input triggers." It's the same as setting a trigger (or "action"), but instead of clicking the button for "Output," you check "Input." Put what you want the alias to be (what you type) in the first box, and what commands the alias will send to the game in the "reply" box. |

That doesn't work for longer aliases, such as for descs. There's a character limit in the Reply box that is quite short.

You want a macro that will change your desc? If it's a big block of text like that, then I'd just advise saving it in a .txt file and doing a bit of copy/pasting with an @desc me= in front (on PennMUSH). That's me, though.

Can aliases in Savitar parameterized, so you can type text after the alias and have it used in a special variable in the alias? For example if you had an alias that was named k and it did kick, and you wanted to kick a rat for instance you could type k rat and it would kick the rat. If this feature isn't allready included in the current edition it is a definite must for future additions.

As of version 1.3.3 of Savitar, trigger replies can be quite long now (>255 characters).

QUOTE (Andrew @ Jan 31 2004, 05:41 AM) Can aliases in Savitar parameterized, so you can type text after the alias and have it used in a special variable in the alias? For example if you had an alias that was named k and it did kick, and you wanted to kick a rat for instance you could type k rat and it would kick the rat. You set an input trigger for "k $$variable" and set the reply to "kick %%variable". Whatever you type after "k" in the input pane is placed in the variable and sent out with the reply text. |
